Liberty Hospital’s Oncology program has received approval with commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, placing it among an elite group of programs providing cancer care across the nation. Currently, only 25 percent of all hospitals are Commission on Cancer approved. Of those 25 percent, less than half receive the additional honor of being approved with commendation.

In addition, the Commission on Cancer has also named Liberty Hospital as a recipient of its 2006 Outstanding Achievement Award. Only 31 cancer programs in the entire nation received this award in 2006. Liberty Hospital was the only adult hospital in the state of Missouri to receive this award.

Liberty Hospital was the first hospital in the Northland to become a Certified Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Society site surveyors looked at all aspects of the hospital’s protocols for caring for chest pain patients. “The site surveyors took everything into consideration during their review—even hospital signage and how easy it is to find our Emergency Department,” said Cheryl Phillips, RN, Emergency Department director.

The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation has certified Liberty Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program, making it the first program in the Northland to receive certification.
