Prepared Childbirth |
|
This three week evening childbirth class covers the mechanics of the labor and birth process. This is NOT a Lamaze class, but time will be spent learning breathing/relaxation techniques as well as comfort measures and the role of the coach. Topics also include interventions, complications and pain management. Please bring two pillows and a blanket or sleeping bag to use during breathing and relaxation practice. A guided tour of the Birthing Center is included. Classes are a three week series generally held on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, depending on which series you signed up for, but some dates may be altered to accomodate holidays and scheduling. Baby Care Basics is recommended as a companion class and requires seperate registration. We suggest that you complete your classes by the time you are 36 weeks gestation. Registration is required to participate in this class. You only need to register one time per couple. An all day complete childbirth class, the Childbirth Express is the answer to your busy schedule, as a refresher and for those self-directed learners. Class is fast paced and the same as our 3 week evening Prepared Childbirth series except a shorter amount of time is spent on the floor for breathing/relaxation techniques. Baby Care Basics prepares you for survival of the first few weeks at home with your new baby. This class provides you with some basic parenting skills, including: bathing, diapering, comforting, and safety issues for the newborn. Teaching methods include dvd, powerpoint, displays, and demonstrations. This class is offered once a month and is recommended as a companion class with Prepared Childbirth and Childbirth Express as well as those experienced parents who just want a refresher or learn about changes since their last baby was born. Breastfeeding Basics |

Breastfeeding Basics Class provides information for expectant families to identify the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby. Breastfeeding Support Services are coordinated by a Lactation Consultant who teaches this class and hosts Breastfeeding Support Group. Liberty Hospital is an official Medela pump station and our Lactation Consultant can answer all your questions, as well as provide information regarding pump rental/sales and supplies. Breastfeeding Support Group |
|
Breastfeeding Support Group meets weekly on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. in the Education Center. The group is hosted by a Lactation Consultant who provides support, education and addresses breastfeeding difficulties. Infant weight checks are available. Support group DOES NOT meet on national holidays or in the event of local school closings for inclement weather. No registration is necessary for support group. |

Big Brother/Big Sister Club |
|
Big Brother/Big Sister Club stimulates discussion with expectant siblings and their parents about the upcoming birth and family changes. Class meets in the Birthing Center and includes a tour, video, discussion, and a painting session! We provide refreshments of cookies/crackers and juice/milk. An adult must accompany the child/children. Age limit is 3-7 and class size is limited to 8 only. This class is geared towards the younger child. If your interest for your older child is to tour the Birthing Center, you may call to schedule a private tour. Infant Massage |
|
Infant massage is a two part class that teaches parents different massage techniques and strokes for baby. Infant massage encourages bonding plus your baby benefits from tactile, visual and vocal stimulation. Studies have shown that infants who are massaged sleep better and are more alert when they are awake. Pre-term infants may gain more weight when massaged. Sessions occur once per month for 2 weeks on Thursdays. Class size is limited. Preferred age range is newborn through 6 months. Registration is required to participate in this class.
