CPR Instructor Course - AHA BLS-I
Total Joint Replacement
Heartsaver AED CPR / Adult & Pediatric
This course teaches Adult, Child, and Infant CPR and the use of an AED for victims 1 year of age or older. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Will be practicing skills that will require working on your hands and knees, bending and standing. This class is taught by American Heart Association instructors following AHA guidelines. You will receive a course completion card with this class. A non-refundable fee covers class materials. Participants must be 12 years of age or older. CPR classes are held at least monthly. If no registration box appears below, the current class is full. Future dates include: 6/12/08 and 7/26/08. Registration opens 30 days prior to class date.

Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid
Class teaches the basics of first aid action for infants and children, including how to manage illness and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. The course is specifically designed for those child care workers and those who work with children in the nursery and elementary school settings. The course will be taught by registered nurses who are American Heart Association instructors. There is a non-refundable fee to cover materials. Participants must be at least 12 years of age. The next class is 6/7/08. Registration opens 30 days prior to the class date.

Heartsaver Adult First Aid
This course teaches the basics of first aid actions for adults, including how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. The course is specifically designed for those who have a responsibility to provide basic first aid skills at their workplace or home settings. The course will be taught by registered nurses who are AHA instructors. There is a non-refundable fee to cover course materials. Participants must be at least 12 years of age. The last class of 2008 is 5/8/08. Registration opens 30 days prior to the class date.

Safe Sitter
This course is a medically accurate child care course developed especially for 11 to 13-year olds. Safe Sitter teaches skills needed to safely care for children 6 months through school age. Class content includes babysitting as a business, child development, injury management, behavior management, safety for the sitter, and cpr techniques. This is a 2-day course and the non-refundable fee covers class material. Classes will be June 20 & 21, June 30 & July 1, July 17 & 18, and July 28 & 29. Registration for those classes begins April 16, 2008.

Introduction To Parish Nursing/Faith Community Nursing

Medical Terminology
This is an eleven-week course (consecutive Tuesday evenings) designed to introduce basic medical terminology to those with a non-medical background interested in exploring opportunities in the medical field, or in further study. Please note that both homework and independent study will be required to successfully complete the program. A non-refundable fee will cover materials provided. This class will not be offered again until 2009.

ReDiscover Nursing - A Returnship Program
This program is designed to assist the Registered Nurse who has been out of the acute care clinical setting and is interested in returning to clinical nursing practice. The curriculum provides both a clinical and educational focus that serves to update the knowledge and skills needed to practice in the clinical setting. Look Good, Feel Better
Look Good…Feel Better is a FREE educational program that teaches beauty techniques to women diagnosed with cancer and to help combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. This unique class is offered by a licensed cosmetologist and hosted by several area hospitals. Pre-registration is required because cosmetics must be ordered in advance to match your skin tone. Benefits include: Talking with other women going through treatment, looking good and feeling better about yourself, receiving valuable instructions from a licensed cosmetologist, and the opportunity to take home a makeup bag valued at over $200.

Diabetes Class
This class is offered every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Diabetes management instruction is coordinated by a Certified Diabetes Educator and includes diabetes management, medications, diet, excercise and stress management. This class requires a physician order and is charged to your insurance company. For more information, call 816-792-7267.

Pre-Diabetes Management Class
This class is for people diagnosed with Pre Diabetes, Impaired Glucose Tolerance, Hyperglycemia, or Insulin Resistance. It is taught by a Certified Diabetes Educator and will include: instruction to delay the onset of Type 2 Diabetes, nutrition, and exercise. A non-refundable fee for the class includes a book. Health On The Internet: Basics for 50+
Would you like to learn to find health information from credible sources on the Internet? The focus of this free, single-session class is health information for seniors new to the Internet. Basic instruction in using the Internet to find credible Web sites is offered in a hands-on class. All ages are welcome to attend. Class size is limited and registration is required.

CPR Instructor Course - AHA BLS-I
The 2-day American Heart Association course is designed for individuals interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to teach Basic Life Support (BLS) Courses. It will be offered on July 25, 2008 from 8 am to 4 pm and July 26th from 8 am to 1 pm. The course will include information of what to teach and how to teach, and includes observation/participation in an actual Heartsaver AED class. Call the Education Department at 816.792.7085 to register. Payment of $125 is required to receive the course packet. The AHA Core Instructor pre-course requirements must be completed and a copy of certificate provided to the Education Department prior to July 18, 2008. A copy of current HCP BLS card is also needed.

Total Joint Replacement
This class is designed for patients who are scheduled to undergo total joint replacement. Patients, their family members, and anyone interested in learning about, and rehabiltation after, total joint replacement are invited to attend. Registration is not required.
