MEDLINEplus from the National Library of Medicine http://www.medlineplus.gov National Library of Medicine's MEDLINEplus is for anyone with a medical question. This service provides access to extensive information about specific diseases, conditions, and prescription drugs. Includes links to consumer health information from the National Institutes of Health, clearinghouses, dictionaries, lists of hospitals and physicians, health information in Spanish and other languages, and clinical trials.
Medical Encyclopedia from the National Library of Medicine http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/encyclopedia.html After selecting a topic, you can easily view a list of symptoms, treatments, and prevention. Each section has cross reference links to other related conditions.
CAPHIS: Consumer and Patient Health Information Section of the Medical Library Association http://caphis.mlanet.org/consumer/consumerall.html Top 100 List of Web Sites You Can Trust. This list of quality health web sites meets the criteria for currency, credibility, content, audience, etc., as described on the CAPHIS web site.
Drugs, Supplements, and Herbal Information from MEDLINEplus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html The most comprehensive, free resource on the web for prescription drug information. This is the drugs and supplements section of the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINEplus.
Hardin M.D. http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/hardin/md/ This subject directory of health web site links is maintained by the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, University of Iowa. This site has a unique focus on medical pictures.
Healthfinder http://www.healthfinder.gov/ Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this site directs you to selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public.
Information from Your Family Doctor http://familydoctor.org/ From the American Academy of Family Physicians, this site offers patient education documents for common medical concerns and conditions.
Aetna InteliHealth http://www.intelihealth.com/ Aetna InteliHealth, a subsidiary of Aetna, partners with Harvard Medical School and Columbia University College of Dental Medicine to provide credible health information. Aetna InteliHealth’s editorial policy states that it maintains absolute editorial independence from Aetna. The site is content rich on disease and treatment information.
MayoClinic.com http://www.mayoclinic.com/ MayoClinic.com offers a wealth of easy-to-understand information on health and medical topics. New material is added every workday, and is reviewed for accuracy by Mayo Clinic experts.
NOAH: New York Online Access to Health http://www.noah-health.org/ NOAH New York Online Access to Health is a unique collection of state, local and federal resources selected by editors with consumers in mind. Searchers may select from a list of Health Topics which are then narrowed to include definitions, care and treatment, and lists of information resources. Many bilingual resources.
RxList - The Internet Drug Index http://www.rxlist.com/ A very useful drug index, It has an excellent search engine and provides information on both a consumer and professional level. Information on various disease categories is also provided as is Taber's Medical Encyclopedia. An advanced search engine is also available which allows searching by drug name, keyword, imprint code, NDC and medical terminology as well. |
