Joseph Crossett honored with Visionary Leadership Award
Joseph W. Crossett, CEO/Administrator of Liberty Hospital, was honored with one of the Missouri Hospial Association's highest honors - the Visionary Leadership Award.

The awards were presented Thursday, Nov. 9, during a dinner ceremony at MHA’s 85th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Osage Beach, Mo.

MHA recognized Crossett for his determination to expand access to care through innovative partnerships and hospital investments.

“Joe’s leadership in providing health care access is second to none,” said Marc D. Smith, MHA president. “By building community-based partnerships to expand primary care for the uninsured and aligning the hospital’s resources to address impediments to care, he has enhanced the health of many individuals and communities in northwest Missouri.”

Crossett uses targeted wellness and prevention access to improve health outcomes. Through its alliance with Northland Health Care Access, Liberty Hospital supports clinically-based primary care for many uninsured northwest Missourians. Created in 1991, the program provided 5,000 primary care visits to the uninsured in 2006. Crossett also has invested hospital resources in post-discharge obstetrical care. The OB Home Follow-Up program provides in-home checkups by hospital-sponsored nurses within 48 hours of patient discharge. In 2006, the program conducted 862 home visits to mothers and their newborns.

Under Crossett’s leadership, the hospital also has expanded health care access through transportation and lodging programs. Developed from staff suggestions and energetically embraced by Crossett, Liberty Hospital’s TreeHouse provides hospitality services to patients and families who travel significant distances to receive care. The service, which is available to all patients and their families, has offered hospitality and overnight stays to more than 7,200 guests from 35 states since 2004. For patients with limited transportation, Crossett expanded the hospital’s investment in service vehicles. Since 2000, five hospital vehicles have traveled more than 1.2 million miles and transported more than 70,000 patients to hospital or physician appointments.

Crossett has been with Liberty Hospital for 31 years, serving as Administrator since 1988.
