Liberty Hospital opens new unit, increases bed count to 245

Liberty Hospital has opened a new inpatient unit, adding ten new beds to the hospital and increasing the hospital’s size from 235 to 245 licensed beds.

The new 2 West unit will serve as a general medical/surgical overflow unit, with the additional capability of handling extra OB patients when the hospital’s Birthing Center is full. The ten new private rooms are appointed with the same amenities and décor as the hospital’s Birthing Center, including a multi-head shower, flat screen TV with DVD/VHS player, and an extra sleeping bed for a family member. It also has a small nursery area.

“Our inpatient volume continues to grow along with the growth of the Liberty community and surrounding area,” said Joseph Crossett, hospital administrator. “This new unit, along with 40 new beds that we are currently constructing on our South Tower, will help prepare us for future growth in the Northland.”

The new unit was remodeled in the location of the former OB unit, which moved to the Medical Plaza East building in 2005. The remodeling was completed at a cost of $1.3 million.
