Birthing Center receives award from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
LIBERTY, Mo. (June 7, 2011) – The Liberty Hospital Birthing Center received an award in April from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding its excellent dedication to quality improvement in their services.
The Birthing Center participated in the CDC’s Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care assessment in 2009, designed to assess infant feeding practices. The evaluation surveyed the unit’s service in areas such as Labor and Delivery Care, Postpartum Care, Staff Training and more.
The Birthing Center staff scored above the state and national averages in almost all categories. The center’s overall ranking was 65, with the Missouri average being 50 and the national average being 49. The average score of facilities with a similar size was 45.
Listed are some the areas of quality tested by the CDC for the award:
• Labor and Delivery Care
• Postpartum Care – Feeding of Breastfed Infants
• Postpartum Care – Breastfeeding Assistance
• Postpartum Care – Contact Between Mother and Infant
• Facility Discharge Care
• Staff Training Structural and Organizational Aspects of Care Delivery.
