Crossett announces retirement as Liberty Hospital administrator and CEO
LIBERTY, Mo. (Monday, April 4) — Joe Crossett, CEO of Liberty Hospital, will retire effective Friday, April 29, following more than 35 years with the organization. A search by the Liberty Hospital Board of Trustees is underway to identify his replacement.

Crossett was named Liberty Hospital’s CEO in 1988 after serving as associate administrator. Crossett began his career at Liberty Hospital as an administrative assistant and personnel director in 1976. “Joe stepped into the role of hospital administrator at a time when the hospital desperately needed strong leadership,” said Tony Shippert, Liberty Hospital Board of Trustees president. “He has played an exemplary role in improved patient care, patient satisfaction and overall financial health.”

Under his leadership, Liberty Hospital experienced substantial growth which today includes 250 licensed patient beds. He has overseen a number of hospital expansions including the development of the Doctors Office Building, Medical Plaza East, the south tower and most recently the hospital’s cardiology expansion. He has helped to establish new service lines such as The Birthing Center, The Pain Management Center, The Cancer Center and The Liberty Regional Heart and Vascular Center.

The district hospital and regional medical center has also received numerous accolades for excellence in patient care and safety. Crossett has led the hospital through multiple Joint Commission accreditation surveys as well as many other accreditations. He has worked to gain several certifications for the hospital, including making the organization a Certified Chest Pain Center and Level II Trauma Center.

In addition to more than 35 years of service to Liberty Hospital, he has dedicated himself to providing valuable community service to the Liberty area and the state’s hospital community.

Crossett has served on numerous boards supporting Missouri health care. He has previously served as president of the Kansas City Metropolitan Health Care Council, as a board member and board chair of the Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) Board of Trustees and currently serves as president of the Northwest District Council. He has also been very active in MHA’s advocacy efforts on both the state and national levels.

In 2007, MHA recognized Crossett for his determination to expand access to care through innovative partnerships and hospital investments and awarded him with the Visionary Leadership Award. “Joe’s leadership in providing health care access is second to none,” said Shippert. “By building community-based partnerships to expand primary care for the uninsured and aligning the hospital’s resources to address impediments to care he has enhanced the health of many individuals and communities in northwest Missouri.”

In the Liberty area, he has been recognized for his extensive community service. In 2005, he received the Northland Community Service Award from Commerce Bank. In 2002, he was honored by William Jewell College with the Citation for Achievement Award. This award is an opportunity for the college to recognize leadership and services of William Jewell alumni.

In retirement, Crossett plans to continue serving his community. He will continue to do work within his church, Liberty Manor Baptist. He and his wife Bonnie will spend time with their family and continue to teach Bible studies. They reside in Liberty, Mo.
