(July 2, 2008) — Liberty Hospital has taken the initiative to help relieve employees of high gas prices by partnering with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) to offer a new carpooling program. RideShare is a publicly funded commuter-matching service and is available to anyone who lives, works or attends school in the greater Kansas City area. The program will not only help the environment but will also mean significant savings for individual employees. MARC estimates that an employee commuting an average of 20 miles round trip could reduce travel costs by more than $2,000 per year. “Liberty is fortunate to have many dedicated employees, some of whom are commuting from distances as far as northwest Missouri and elsewhere,” said Joe Crossett, Liberty Hospital administrator. “Their dedication to Liberty Hospital is exemplary, and through this program we hope to help reduce the expense of their daily commute.” After employees create a personal account on the RideShare Web site, they are able to network with other commuters. RideShare allows employees to search other commuters who have similar needs and interests. Employees will be able to use RideShare as much or as little as needed. Liberty Hospital is a 245-bed regional medical center serving Clay and Platte counties as well as the northwest Missouri corridor.
