Liberty Hospital receives national cardiology award
Liberty Hospital has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2011 – one of only 94 hospitals nationwide to do so.
The award recognizes Liberty Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that the hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
To receive the award, Liberty Hospital consistently followed the treatment guidelines in ACTION Registry–GWTG for four consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 85 percent for specific performance measures. Following these treatment guidelines improves adherence to ACC/AHA Clinical Guideline recommendations, monitors drug safety and the overall quality of care provided to ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients (NSTEMI).
“Liberty Hospital is focused on improving the quality of cardiovascular care,” said David Feess, Liberty Hospital administrator. “The number of heart attack patients eligible for treatment is expected to grow over the next decade due to increasing incidence of heart disease and a large aging population. I’m proud of our team and look forward to even more successes in the cardiology arena.”
ACTION Registry–GWTG is a partnership between the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association with partnering support from the American College of Emergency Physicians, Society of Chest Pain Centers and the Society of Hospital Medicine. ACTION Registry-GWTG (Get With the Guidelines) empowers health-care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk STEMI and NSTEMI patients.
Liberty Hospital is a 250-bed regional medical center serving Clay and Platte counties as well as the northwest Missouri corridor. Founded in 1974, Liberty Hospital is a public, not-for-profit hospital, created for the benefit of its community as a political subdivision district hospital under Chapter 206 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. It is governed by a six-member, publicly elected board of trustees who serve six-year terms. More than 1,900 employees and 300 physicians deliver compassionate, exceptional care using the latest technology and a full range of services.
