What is a Hysterosonography Ultrasound exam? This is an examination used to study the uterus.
How should I prepare for the Hysterosonographic exam? There is no special preparation for this exam.
What does the Hysterosonagraphic equipment look like? The equipment consists of a transducer, a monitor and a cart that contains the electronics used to process the returning echoes.
What will I experience during this exam? You will be asked to lie on your back for the exam. Warm gel will be applied to your lower abdomen and a transducer will be inserted in the gel so that there will be an efficient transfer of high frequency ultrasound waves to your uterus. The gel also helps to ensure that there is an efficient transfer of echos from the uterus back to the transducer for imaging procession. You will not experience discomfort from this exam unless you are already tender over this area. If you are tender, please inform the technologist so she can adjust the amount of pressure applied to the transducer.
How will I benefit form the Hysterosonagraphic exam? Pathology that can be imaged with this exam are: ∙ atrophy (shrinking of tissues) ∙ adhesions (scarring of tissues) ∙ polyps ∙ fibroids ∙ masses
How will I be notified about the results of my Hysterosonogram exam? The radiologist will interpret the findings of your exam and have a report faxed to your physician within 24-hours. Your physician will contact you with results . |
