Liberty Hospital
Interventional Radiology Services

Surgery is no longer the only option for many procedures! Liberty Hospital’s Interventional Radiology services include minimally invasive interventions to help treat a variety of conditions.

Interventional radiologists watch images from various x-ray techniques as they guide a small instrument (like a wire or catheter) into the body to treat the source of the illness. And with more than 20 years of combined experience, our two board-certified physicians offer an alternative to surgery for many conditions and can sometimes even eliminate the need for hospitalization.

Benefits for YOU:
- no large incisions               - less risk
- less pain                            - shorter recovery times
- outpatient basis or only a brief hospital stay

Conditions

Back Pain – A special outpatient procedure called vertebroplasty can effectively reduce chronic back pain from compression fractures. A special cement is injected into the vertebra to stabilize the fracture. The treatment delivers quick relief and helps increase mobility.

Uterine Fibroids – Our uterine fibroid embolization procedure effectively stops blood flow to the fibroids in the uterus and usually requires only one week of recovery (instead of six to eight weeks after surgery).

Peripheral vascular disease – Angioplasty can be effective on this condition, which causes numbness, pain or weakness in the arm or leg. The physician threads a catheter up to the blocked artery in the leg, and a balloon is inflated to open the blocked vessel.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) – If you suffer from a blood clot in your leg, we can help restore blood flow to arteries and veins. Venous thrombolysis is a minimally invasive procedure that dissolves and removes clots in the deep veins of the arms and legs using a small catheter.

Other procedures include:
- diagnostic tools (such as abscess drains and biopsy procedures)
- arteriograms/venograms
- venous access devices (such as central line/Groshong placement)
- percutaneous nephrostomy (used to treat urinary obstruction)
- percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram (used to treat blockage of the biliary system)
- radiofrequency ablations (used to kill unwanted cancerous tumors by using electrical energy)
- sacroplasty (used to treat sacral insufficiency fractures)
