Liberty Hospital
Total Joint Replacements
One of the most common surgeries performed at Liberty Hospital is the total joint replacement. In this procedure, a surgeon removes the knee or hip and replaces it with a prosthetic joint. One of the most common reasons the procedure is performed is to ease pain and disability from arthritis.

At Liberty Hospital, planning for total joint replacement surgery begins with our weekly total joint replacement class. In this class, members of the entire team, including a physician, nurse, physical therapist, social worker and home health representative discuss everything you will need to know about recovery from a total joint replacement. As a result of this class, the patient knows what to expect and can plan in advance. This team approach has resulted in 90 percent of our total joint replacement patients being able to go home from the hospital in an average of three days. This is far better than the national average - most patients wind up having to go to a rehabilitation unit or skilled nursing unit to rehabilitate before they can go home.
