* Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breast feeding. The level of radioactivity used for this exam is extremely low and has no side effects. You will be positioned under a special detector called a gamma camera. The camera does not produce any radiation. It will be placed close to the part of your body being imaged.
Patient Preparation Do not eat or drink four to six hours before the exam. Do not take pain medications four to six hours before the exam.
Procedure A small amount of radioactive material will be injected into a vein in your arm. Painless images will be obtained for approximately two hours. You will also be given a drug called Cholecystokinin (CCK). This causes your gallbladder to contract. Additional images will be obtained for another hour. Total time: 2 hours. |
