What is a Prostate Ultrasound examination?
This is an examination of the prostate gland and surrounding tissues.

How should I prepare for the Carotid Doppler examination?

-You will be instructed not to eat after midnight the day prior to the exam.

-Take a Fleet enema 30 to 60 minutes prior to coming to the hospital for the exam.

-Empty your bladder immediately before having the exam.

What does the Prostate Ultrasound equipment look like?
The equipment consists of a transducer, a monitor and a cart that contains the electronics used to process the returning echoes.

What will I experience during this exam?
You will be asked to lie on your side during the exam. A narrow transducer will be inserted into your rectum and the technologist will gently rotate it into various positions to visualize the whole prostate gland. This is usually not an uncomfortable experience and the procedure only takes about 30 minutes.

How will I be notified about the results of my Prostate Ultrasound exam?
The radiologist will interpret the findings of your exam and have a report faxed to your physician within 24-hours. Your physician will contact you with results
