Cancer care

Liberty Hospital and Saint Luke's Cancer Institute have teamed up to provide expanded cancer care services at the hospital in Liberty. The program will provide comprehensive oncology services to the Northland and Northeast Kansas City communities in a convenient location.

The two organizations provide a program that will:

  • Provide a comprehensive cancer diagnostic and treatment program at Liberty Hospital to serve as a regional hub for cancer care in the Liberty community and Northeast Kansas City.
  • Expand coverage by experienced oncologists and hematologists at Liberty Hospital five days a week.
  • Offer multidisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Offer patients access to industry and National Cancer Institute-sponsored clinical studies.
  • Provide on-site infusion and chemotherapy, as well as genetic counseling, rehabilitation, survivorship and support services.

Saint Luke's Cancer Institute provides infusion services at Liberty Hospital and has offices for medical oncologists/hematologists at Liberty Hospital, enabling full-time coverage.

Through this affiliation, patients on the Liberty Hospital campus will have access to supportive services, such as mental health support, nutritional advice during and after treatment, cancer support groups, fitness consultations, massage therapy, educational programs and other services.

Support services

Look Good...Feel Better

Liberty Hospital offers Look Good...Feel Better, a free educational program from the American Cancer Society. This class teaches female cancer patients beauty tips to combat the damaging effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. For details, contact Trish Vanderpool, 816.251.5622.

Cancer Survivorship Network

Because cancer can be a very frightening disease, it is important for the patient and family to know they are not alone and to be able to share thoughts and feelings with others. Liberty Hospital brings together healthcare providers and survivors to create a partnership for encouragement and support. We are dedicated to establishing and maintaining quality of life after a cancer diagnosis.

Chaplain services

Chaplain services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A hospital chaplain can serve as a pastoral presence, providing a spiritual connection for individual patients as well as emotional support for patients and family members during difficult times.

A chaplain is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 816.792.7026. If you would like to reach the chaplain after business hours, contact the hospital operator at 816.781.7200. The H.I. Hester Memorial Chapel is located just west of the hospital lobby and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for patients and visitors.

Cancer registry

Since 1996, experts have been collecting and analyzing data on cancer patients diagnosed and treated at Liberty Hospital. Utilizing specialized software, our staff has collected demographic, diagnostic, treatment and follow-up information on more than 7,000 cancer cases at Liberty Hospital.

This is important to future patients because the more we can track and follow-up on how our patients are doing, the more we learn about the treatment of cancer.
