New technology and procedures are now available at Liberty Hospital
New surgical procedures and technology for heart and lung conditions provide high quality specialty care for patients at Liberty Hospital.
Pulsed Field Ablation is the latest technology to treat atrial fibrillation (a heart condition). This technology utilizes brief electrical pulses to ablate tissues with a high degree of accuracy. As a result, it reduces procedure time and lowers the risk of collateral damage associated with traditional radio frequency ablation and cryoablation. Siva Soma, MD, and Yeruva Reddy, MD, of The University of Kansas Health System and the Liberty Hospital surgical team have been successfully performing this procedure at Liberty Hospital since early August. Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a robotic-assisted platform to biopsy lung tissue for diagnosis, potentially speeding up the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. While there are multiple Ion systems across the Kansas City metro, Liberty Hospital is the one farthest north in our region, making our location a key access point for patients in surrounding communities.
A new AI-powered emphysema screening program automatically reviews patients’ chest
CT scans to identify severe emphysema patients who may benefit from a minimally invasive procedure called Bronchoscopic Lung Volume Reduction (BLVR). This procedure uses endobronchial valves, which are umbrella-shaped devices inserted in airways, to improve lung function by allowing airflow to be redirected from diseased portions of the lung to healthier portions.
